Motorsports Legends Brian Redman & Derek Bell to race Amalfi Racing Porsche 962's one last time

Celebrating 25th Anniversary of Porsche 956/962 at Daytona Rennsport Reunion-III, this is likely the last time racing fans will see these legendary drivers race the 962 racecar

JUPITER, FLORIDA – Oct. 17, 2007 -- Klaus Fischer, Technical Director and co-owner of Amalfi Racing, announced today that world champions Brian Redman and Derek Bell will race the two Amalfi Racing Porsche 962s at Daytona International Raceway in the Rennsport Reunion-III on November 3rd and 4th.  Brian Redman will campaign Mike Amalfitano’s Amalfi Racing, Group-C Jagermeister Porsche 962. Derek Bell will campaign Bill Hawe’s Amalfi Racing, IMSA Jagermeister Porsche 962.

Brian Redman, a member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame, is a world champion having raced for the factory teams of Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Jaguar, McLaren Formula-1, William Formula-1, Chevron, Aston Martin, Haas/Hall Chaparral Lola, John Wyer Gulf-Porsche and Gulf-Ford.  Brian won the Championships in USA Formula 5000, IMSA Camel GT, and was a member of the world championship teams of 1968 John Wyer Gulf-Ford, 1969 Porsche AG, 1970 Chevron, 1970 John Wyer Gulf-Porsche and 1972 SEFAC Ferrari.  He has won at Nurburgring, Imola, Kyalami, Brands Hatch, Sebring 12 hours, Monza, Targa Florio and Daytona 24 hours.

Derek Bell is a 5-time LeMans 24 hour race winner, 3-time winner of Daytona 24 hour race and the winner of 2 World Sportscar Championships. He has raced for the factory teams of Ferrari, Porsche, and McLaren.  He started racing in a Lotus and then moved to Formula-3. Having caught the eye of the Ferrari factory, he then moved to drive their Formula-2 entry and later Ferrari’s Formula-1 car. However, he perhaps became best known for his endurance racing at the 24 Hours of LeMans and Daytona in Group-C and IMSA with Porsche 962s. Derek twice (1986 & 1987) recorded the very rare “double-double” winning both LeMans and Daytona in the same year.

Brian Redman’s Intercontinental Events (www.Rennsport2007.com) is the organizer of the race at Daytona, which is also sponsored by Porsche Cars North America.  The Rennsport Reunion is held every 3 years.  It is the largest gathering of racing Porsches and their famous drivers.  This year it celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Porsche 956/962 racecars. In 1986, the 962 became the last car to win LeMans, Daytona and Sebring all in the same year.  Also featured this year are the Porsche 917 racecars.

Klaus Fischer is internationally renowned for his technical role with Porsche 962s at Dauer Racing in Group-C, IMSA, Interserie, and the 24 Hours of LeMans and Daytona throughout the 1980s and 90s. He said, “Amalfi Racing is proud to once again participate in this historic gathering of the best endurance race cars ever constructed. We are honored to have Brian and Derek racing the Amalfi Racing supported Porsche 962s”.
